Reconnect this Christmas

Christmas is a time to reconnect with friends, family, colleagues and customers from near and far, and these days it’s easier than ever. Whether it’s by sending a personalised card or by picking up the phone and making a call, there’s nothing like showing someone how much you care. Of course, the team at incovo can help you communicate smarter and interact better all year round. Here’s how they’ve been putting their motto into action in 2018, and what they’re got planned for 2019.

This year, incovo welcomed 11 new faces to the team, recruiting industry experts with a wealth of experience such as Andy Taylor (previously the Managing Director of Simple Digital), so they could respond quickly and efficiently to the growing demand for their services. Incovo also signed up many new clients, staving off stiff competition to win several major contracts including a £150,000 deal to install 26 A3 Konica Minolta devices, a £300,000 deal with Kura – the largest outsourced contact centre in the UK, and a £500,000 multi-site contract with a global insurance company.

2018 also saw incovo revamp their office and unveil a brand-new demonstration suite to enable prospective clients to see the latest technology in action. If you haven’t seen it yet, give the team a call and arrange a visit in the New Year.
In addition, incovo overhauled their website to give it a more contemporary look and feel, and they’re continuing to improve the user experience by adding a whole new section where you’ll be able to view the full product range and get a quote for a bespoke system. Watch out for it going live in Spring 2019.

The team have also been busy filming a series of brand-new videos featuring top tech tips and advice which they will be revealing in the New Year. Until then, from all at incovo – have a very merry Christmas and enjoy reconnecting. incovo will be back helping you communicate smarter and interact better than ever in 2019.

incovo gives back this Christmas

As it’s been such a fantastic year for incovo, the team were asked how they’d like to celebrate their success this Christmas. However the suggestions were not quite as expected. The CEO, Chris Thomas had fully expected a barrage of requests for a big festive dinner, or a no-expenses-spared night out on the town, but in fact the team opted for a much more sobering alternative.

This year the team voted unanimously to donate their Christmas fund to Shakti Women’s Aid, an Edinburgh-based charity that helps Black Minority Ethnic women, children, and young people experiencing domestic abuse.

The incovo team agreed Shakti Women’s Aid was a worthy cause and knowing they’ve helped people in genuine need this Christmas feels so much better than a hangover!

Well done to everyone at incovo for your selfless generosity and showing everyone what Christmas is really about.

Going above and beyond

Ask any team member at incovo and they’ll say their company goes above and beyond – sometimes quite literally!

For example, the incovo Service Manager and Imaging Engineer, Jamie Bell, and the incovo Regional Imaging Engineer, Darren McIntosh, recently embarked on an International Powered Access Federation (or IPAF) training programme. The course was developed by leading industry professionals and provides trainees with a solid understanding of platform operators.

Having passed the rigorous tests, they each received their Powered Access Licence (or PAL Card as it’s known in the industry) and a certificate.

Jamie and Darren are now fully qualified to operate cherry pickers and other mobile elevating work platforms, which is often an essential requirement for certain cabling jobs.

Congratulations to Jamie and Darren for taking your skills to new heights!

Staying ahead of the competition

They say ‘Every day is a school day’, even when you’re at the top of your game. And that’s why incovo invests heavily in training its team – because in an industry where technology moves quickly, it’s so important that everyone at incovo continues to update their skills and knowledge, so that the business remains one step ahead of the competition.

Take Scott Prunty for example, the resident Telecommunications and Cabling Engineer at incovo. During his time at the company, he’s proved himself to be a loyal and hard-working part of the team. However, not one to rest on his laurels, he was keen to add yet more expertise to his repertoire, so he headed off to London for a week of intensive IP networking training.

The course covered all parts of TCP/IP, including layers 4 to 7 on end stations as well as layer 3 on routers. It also covered the TCP/IP protocols, enabling Scott to troubleshoot TCP/IP using Wireshark. The training itself included a mix of engaging and interactive group exercises, individual tasks, discussions and workbook learning, culminating in a 1.5-hour examination.

And incovo is pleased to announce that Scott passed the course with flying colours! Not only did Scott attain his LINX Accredited Internet Technician 1 certificate, and come away with a wealth of new skills he couldn’t wait to put into practise, it also reaffirmed to the team how committed incovo is to personal and professional progression. Because a team that continually ups their game will always stay ahead of the competition.

incovo making the news again

The best way to start the day is with a hearty breakfast and a quick scan of the newspapers to keep up with current affairs. And it’s an even better start to the day when your company actually features in those newspapers!

You may remember we recently shared a link to Scottish Business Insider magazine which ran an interview with the incovo CEO, Chris Thomas. Well, it didn’t stop there. The press interest kept coming and next in line was The Scotsman, one of the country’s most popular newspapers.

Their business reporter was keen to sit down with Chris to talk about expanding the team, client wins and profit goals, and the result was an eye-opening account of the ambitions and motivations of this dynamic young entrepreneur.

If you didn’t manage to pick up a copy, you can still check out the interview in full online HERE.

Those of you who have been a loyal client at incovo for some time will no doubt already know about the extremely difficult circumstances which lead Chris to take on the role of CEO. But whether you’re a client or not, it’s hard not to be impressed by how far Chris has come, and indeed how far incovo as a company has come in such a short space of time, especially when you consider how it all started for him.

It just goes to show that when you have a clear goal and the right team behind you to help you achieve it, great things can happen. We’re confident it’s only a matter of time before incovo are hitting the headlines again with another big success story.

Hot off the press: Word of incovo’s success is spreading

incovo CEO Chris Thomas is a big believer that hard work should be recognised and rewarded. That’s why he’s always the first to shout about his team member’s achievements. And looking back at what incovo has accomplished over the past couple of years, it’s easy to see why it might be hard to keep quiet about it all.

Despite this, it still came as quite a surprise to Chris when he got a phone call informing him that Scottish Business Insider magazine wanted to write a whole feature on incovo’s recent success. They’re one of the most authoritative B2B publications around so it was obvious to everyone this was a big deal.

They had seen how incovo had evolved in recent years, they had heard about the major client wins, and they were keen to find out more. So Chris sat down with a journalist one afternoon and told him the full story – where it all started, what sets the company apart from the competition, and what he thinks the future holds for incovo.

Interviews can be tricky, you can never be sure what’s going to make it to print and what will be carefully edited out, but the team was thrilled when they read the published piece. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can read it in full HERE.

The article described Chris as ‘One of Scotland’s most dynamic young entrepreneurs’ which of course he was proud of, but he was equally pleased they took on board everything he said about the help and support he gets from the whole incovo team, particularly colleagues like Ray who has been a fantastic mentor to him. He knows incovo’s success is not just down to him, but the result of the contributions of each and every member of the team.

No sooner had he shared the article online and The Scotsman got in touch to ask if they could interview Chris next! (Keep an eye on incovo’s social media for an update on when it’ll be published.)

In both interviews Chris was asked about the future of incovo and he didn’t hesitate for a second when he said he believed incovo will be the biggest independent telecoms and print company in Scotland. That may seem like a bold statement, but he’s so confident in what incovo does and how they do it, that he was prepared to go on the record and put it out there.

So watch this space. Hard work always pays off in the end. And this is just the beginning…

The big switchover

There are two clear camps when it comes to change – those who moan about it and those who thrive on it. I’m definitely one of the latter, which is one of the reasons why I love my job – because technology is constantly emerging.

Whether you love it or hate, there’s one big change on the horizon that we all need to prepare for, and that’s the switch from ISDN to IP technology. Sound complicated? Don’t worry, we’re here to make the transition nice and easy for you.

Put simply, here’s what it all comes down to – BT has announced it will cease ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) by 2025 and stop selling it by 2022.

ISDN is a network technology that supports the digital transfer of simultaneous voice and data traffic, along with support for video and fax, over the public switched telephone network. A few people in lesser populated areas – where better options aren’t available – continue to use it, however most internet providers have already phased out their support for ISDN.

The reason? This technology is outdated and is more expensive than IP telephony by around 40%. Instead, if you haven’t already, businesses have to move to an IP solution. These cover all services, from voice and data to video.

So, what are your options? Well, here is our top three:

  1. SIP trunking: For Session Initiation Protocol trunking, you’ll need an internet connection. (Our engineers have the facility to check broadband suitability at your premises to ensure the best connection possible is installed). You’ll also need an Avaya IP office 500V2 with physical cards that allow for IP telephony, (either a VCM32/64 or a Combination card). The phone system will also require the latest software release, currently R11.0, SIP trunk licenses and compatible Avaya handsets. This is a really popular option, in fact we’ve successfully switched five clients to SIP trunking in the last month alone.
  2. VoIP solution: Voice over Internet Protocol enables you to make and receive phone calls via your internet connection. The Gamma Horizon solution is perfect for a small business with under 15 extensions and basic functionality requirements. Its main benefits include minimal hardware required on-site and it’s manageable remotely through our online portal. Plus you can spread the cost over three or five years.
  3. Cloud Hosted Telephony: This is a way of storing your phone system in a managed cloud, (following the same procedure of SIP trunking above), resulting in less hardware and maintenance costs, plus much more resilience thanks to the disaster recovery features included.

Our fully trained team of experts will spend time understanding your business and existing phone system, and advise which of the solutions above would best suit your business. The good thing is that you may not have to replace any of your existing phone system. What’s more, we’ll make sure you’re up and running, communicating and interacting smoothly, with out-of-hours switchover as standard.

All of our calls to UK landlines, mobiles and national numbers come free of charge, and if you sign up to a three or five year deal, all handsets are free of charge!

Want to find out more? Look out for our case study from Hudson House, which we’ll be sharing very soon, for more information on the benefits of moving from ISDN to SIP trunking. Or call 0345 450 8400 or email support@incovo.com and we’ll happily tailor a solution to meet your needs.

The big switchover deadline is 2025, but the incovo team is ready now and can update your technology at a time that suits you and your business.
